The jar is filled with woodchips to make 350mL of Rum. After adding the Rum woodchips to a clear liquor like Vodka or Dry Gin the chips will slowly release their flavour and colour as if your liquor is ageing in a Rum barrel!
Did you run out of Snippers? It’s possible to reuse the Snippers bottles with these Refills. Of course, you can also use the Refills in a bottle you already have at home.
With this jar of woodchips, you can turn clear liquor into Rum. The woodchips inside the jar come from shredded Rum barrels that have been used to make Rum for many years. Although the chips are small, they still contain a lot of sweet vanilla Rum flavour. This flavour will be released after adding them to a clear liquor, as if you are ageing your liquor in a Rum barrel.
1 Add liquor
You start off by adding the woodchips to a clear liquor like Vodka or Dry Gin. Always make sure the liquor contains at least 30% alcohol. Don’t add them to Rum because the woodchips will not have much effect on Rum. Write down the bottle date and the type of liquor you’ve used. If possible, try using leftover liquor you have at home.
2 The ageing process
After you’ve filled up your bottle, let it age in a cool and dark place. The woodchips will slowly start to release their sweet vanilla Rum flavour and rich colour. Don’t hesitate to taste every now and then to experience how the flavours develop over time. This process takes approximately eight weeks, but feel free to find out what happens if you let it age longer.
3 Serve your own Rum
After eight weeks, it is time to serve your own Rum. Filter or carefully pour the liquor before drinking it. Make sure you don’t pour any of the woodchips into your glass. Also, never eat the woodchips.
4 Cheers!
Enjoy the experiment responsibly.
